Balloons, birthday cards, gallon of milk and Ella

Last night I attempted to multi-task with a two year-old in a grocery store. I was semi-successful! Well, kinda! We needed milk and I wasn't able to get Kyle a birthday card before I left work. So after picking up Ella from daycare we went to the store. Ella love the card section, the problem is she likes to pick up all the cards and put them in other sections. Example a butt load of birthday cards ended up in the sympathy section by the time we left that section last night! Following the card we went to the dairy section for milk. Our local grocery store conducts "Monday Milk Days" so milk is marked down, you will see baskets full of milk coming out of the store and arms and hands restocking the shelves as fast as us greedy consumers can get them!
I should back up, Ella had her blanket and pacifier with her, and by this time I have them and after selecting out milk she decides to take her coat off. No problem, I can handle a coat, blanket, numerous cards, a gallon of milk and chance after a hyper two year old.
We make it to the check out and Ella proceeds to help herself to a sucker, luckily they are a nickel and kept her entertained while I swiped my cards and we moved on to the florist section of the store. There, we picked out a balloon for Kyle and had it filled up. The florist assistant was nice enough to provide a clip for me to attach the balloon to my shirt for Ella to play with and enjoy on our walk to the car.
The balloon made it safely into the car and by the time we got home the sucker had kicked in and Ella was hyper and happy to be home, bouncing around.
I tasked her with signing her name to the card and drawing a picture (I helped her write her name) and started dinner.
Moral of the story- get milk once Kyle is home and buy the cards with out Ella.
It was fun and I am sure I got plenty of looks from other parents wondering how crazy I was. Oh well, Ella had fun.
