I have survived another winter storm, airports and Interstate Highways.
Yesterday, I was in Des Monies, Iowa at the LPC Regional Workshop. It was alot of fun, saw several agriculture/livestock editors I have worked with this past year, and made some new contacts along the way. My sister, Katina, was one of the speakers, and for her first speaking engagement, I will admit she did a great job. She was hit with some challenging questions and answered them to the best of her ability.
It was a good thing the conference went well, because the challenge was to begin following the event. With American Airlines shutting down more than 1,000 flights the day before, Katina and I both knew their would be some challenges in making flights and then connection flights. Luckily it was a green light in Des Moines, I had to pretty much kick Katina out the car at the airport and get my rear towards home, as the winter weather threats were causing headaches for Kyle in Chicago. He had a one day trip to Chicago for a meeting, so Miss Ella was in good hands with our great daycare provider. (She actually spent Wednesday night with them, since Kyle had a 6 a.m. flight to Chicago.)
So I headed home (4 1/2 hour drive) as the storm was on the south tip of Sioux Falls. It was rain until I hit the South Dakota state line and about 40 miles from home I got behind a semi and traveled as much slower speeds as we experienced wet, snowy and icy roads with lots of blowing snow. I did make it home safely, pick up Ella from daycare around 8:30 got home and you know it, Ella had her cookie and we hung out for a while.
At the same time, Kyle was back and forth with Chicago shutting down and reopening the airport, luckily, he was able to get on stand-by and arrived into the Twin Cities around 10-ish, loaded another plan that was suppose to depart to Sioux Falls at 11:30,only to sit on the plane at the gate for another two hours, waiting for the remaining passengers to arrive and board the plane. Kyle arrived home after 3:30 this morning and was asleep when we left this morning.
What a day in the live of us, a bad day to travel, combine the weather conditions and we are luckily both of us got home and Ella didn't spend another night at daycare, though I think she would of liked it.
She slept in Jena (daycare provider)'s son's room, he has bunk beds and is in kindergarten. So it is official, Ella has slept in a boy's room. I haven't told Kyle yet!!!

Wow! I was wondering where you were. Glad you both made it home safely! It is shorts weather here now, and I don't envy you at all. Now, this summer when it is around 100 degrees. . .
wow.... I don't think that I could be you. I hate snow and ice.
Be glad that you don't live inGuthrie anymore. Daycares and schools are closed yesterday and today. Division and the big bridge west of division have been shut down for the past two days as well due to the rain. I am guessing parts of them just washed away. That are saying that we got around 5 inches of rain if not more
Kyle and I are on the travel bug. I am in New Mexico next week for a client meeting/cattle production sale.
I miss the south, so much and all those there. I really want to make a trip to Mississippi this summer. In search of cheap tickets!
Kari- That is too bad about the bridge, and I miss my old house so very much. Oh well, must live in the present.
Have a great weekend
