The First Days

I am going to start at the very beginning, if you look at my previous posts leading up to the trip, I am going to start from there!

Friday, Feb. 6. - I pick up Ella early at daycare today. We head to the bank and she gets two lolly pops, then to the grocery store. Ella proudly directs her mini cart around the store and I try and load up on items for her and Katie for the week. After we check out at the grocery store we head over to the movie store and Ella picks out Dora and Diego DVDs for the week (Katie is going to hate these by the time we get home, from Ella watching them over and over!). We then head home to getting the food put away and making dinner. Ella is more interested in watching her movie or painting, we opt for painting since that is more hands on with her.

I finish packing, write out the emergency contact forms, med forms and have the passport and money ready. Kyle and Katie almost arrive at the same time. Kyle showers, gets his stuff finalized, charges the IPod and spends some time with Ella.

Ella is bouncing off the walls with excitement, finally takes and bath and is full of energy. We talk about mom and dad taking a trip and Katie staying with her for a couple of days. She takes this information with stride and then proceeds to kick us out, tells us to GO. Bye Mom, Bye Dad and kisses us goodbye. So we take the cue and head out. We leave the drive way at 9:30 PM for the Cities.

We arrive at the hotel a little after 1 AM. We had to get gas and Kyle made several calls on the way there, I try to sleep and concentrate on the week ahead and not leaving Ella. Upon arriving at the hotel we learn we are on the earlier shuttle ride to the airport and need to be downstairs at 4:50 AM. Once in the hotel, I lay out my clothes for the next day, get in bed, close my eyes and before i know it am hearing the alarm!!!

Saturday, Feb. 7 - We are on the bus and headed to the airport at 5. I know a few people but not many on the bus. Everyone is quiet and I think still asleep. We wait in a extremely long line to just get to the maze to check in. No looking back, I had a very light lunch and dinner and not much to drink- this becomes a key in the next paragraph.

Once we are in the weaving path to check in I tell Kyle I am hot and take my coat off and begin to lean over my suitcase. Then I start to see black spots! And the next thing I know I am on the ground, yup fainted right there in front of a million people, impressive, scary and embarrassing all at once. Poor Kyle was super worried and I wanted to crawl under my suitcase and die. I rose gracefully and went to the magazine shop and got a bottle water and downed it in a minute, got back in line and did not talk to anyone or make eye contact, and of course everyone wanted to make sure we were ok.

We made it through security and got some breakfast and OJ- I was thinking maybe the lack of sleep and meals may have contributed to the fainting. I sit by myself and try not and focus on the moment. I did spot the Vikings football head coach in the waiting area, so the center of attention was directed to him, thank heavens! We boarded the plane at 7 for a 4 1/2 hour flight. It was every bit of it. The airport in Punta Cana is so cool, huts with palm tree leaves. We were greeted to rain and humidity upon walking off the plane. By this time I am over my fainting spell and ready to get enjoy the trip. Put a smile on my face and prepare for some fun.

The ride from the airport was about 15 minutes long, we arrive at the resort, attempt to check in and find out that we have a wait ahead of us, no problem. To the bar everyone goes for drinks, only I am need of some food and the restaurant is closed to prepare for dinner, this is around 3:30 DR time.

After several drinks that I witnessed the group take, Kyle and I venture out to find the snack shack. We found a great pizza stand that made the brick stone type, yummy, even fresh pineapple and cheese pizza, these people were after my heart. Once the tummy was full we finally got into our room, did I mention that it was overcast and raining- well it was. We cleaned up and got ready for a night of seafood with a group of people that did not witness the fainting incident! We had a blast, lots of laughs and Kyle entertained us with getting us more bread when the waiter went MIA and refilling wine glasses. We called it a early night and hoped for sun the next day.

Sunday, Feb. 8 - We rise a little later than usual and get are suits on and head for the pool. The sun is kind of shinning and we hope to catch some rays after a much needed breakfast. Kyle has to go to a meeting about the different trips you can take and I found a lounge chair while the sun was out. The guys made the decision to try and golf the next day so us wives booked massages. That night we went to the buffet and it was good, nothing fancy and then watched a show for entertainment, got a night cap and hit the sack.

Monday, Feb. 9- Woke up not feeling great, took some preventative meds to help and it seemed to help. I had my massage at noon and it was a 30 minute relaxation one, very nice, though I had to lay on my back and I thought they made some odd slapping sounds, made me wonder a bit. But it was very nice! It rained off and on and throughout the day. We went down to the beach for a while but it was very windy. We had lunch by the beach and it was nice. That night we went out to the steak house and it was a lot of fun. We later went to the casino and I played my luck at roulette and won about $60. Was proud of myself. We then headed to the disco for a long evening of trying to tell the DJ to play some Kid Rock and ACDC, didn't work out in our favor. As we were leaving the casino a down pour of rain came over the resort and Kyle and I got our second shower of the night, we were soaked from head to toe by the time we made the 10 minute walk back to our room.

More to come....
